Books are open a whole new world of imagination, vocabulary and understanding.

• “Reading stimulates the brain to make connections and builds background knowledge about the world,” says Kim Davenport, chief program officer at Jumpstart, a national early-literacy organization. 

• “Reading is the foundation of all learning and will enable a child to absorb and apply content from all areas, including math and science.”

• A passion for reading can be developed at a young age all three of my children have enjoyed listening to stories as babies and at 2,4 and 7  years all still run to snuggle on the couch  for a story (or 10).

• It opens up a language rich experience where they have the opportunity to share their thought on what is happening in the stories or why it may be happening in their opinions. Role modeling a passion for reading can also be a great reflection on how reading can relax and be enjoyable and calming activity.

• Invite your #child to cozy up on the couch with you to read. Keep books out—and accessible and be open to making time to share the joy of reading with your #children of all ages. 

This will not only ignite conversations but build their vocabulary and comprehension.
